Since being resident in Tokyo I’ve been endeavouring to release my inner photographer. I’m sure everyone who visits this city armed with a camera must have a similar love affair with the lanterns which line narrow alleyways at night.

Congrats to East London brethren Mr Jamie Woon on a sick tune with a sick video, which looks only moments away from smashing it up in the UK. You folks in Japan will see this man soon I am certain.
I opened an account today and although I am not here to write ex-pat Japan guides (plenty of good conversations online already) I was taken with the bank cards…upon opening an account at this particular bank you are presented with a book that resembles a Pantone swatch (!) to pick your favourite colour, with names like ‘Tomato Kiss’ and ‘First Rouge’.
The bank also has these special colour-coded reading glasses for age ranges 40, 50 and 60. Presumably the older you get the worse your eyes become.
Japanese billboard ads aren’t always my favourite items of Japanese design, but you can’t mess with the art direction of this one, which currently adorns the platform at Koenji JR station. The message is clear and I concur. Time for a biiru.
Beautiful, minimal use of space and colour. This piece was fun and playful.

Monimals. I’m sure these guys are going to be a smash. They have a cute texture not quite like anything you’ve felt before.
These crisp typographic pieces are witty wordplays, whose meaning was lost on me.

There was a big display of these puppets which I documented extensively with my Pentax using film. If the shots come out well they will appear online.

Broke my Pecha-Kucha cherry last night. Each speaker was varied and captivating. A lot to take in but here are the first two that came to mind when I woke up this morning.

There was a strict no-photography rule in place at ADMT so I didn’t get too far with my camera before getting busted. These are my only shots.
Gone done registered. Tokyo is a dream to ride with perfectly maintained roads. The only major peculiarity I’ve come up against is that cyclists here don’t indicate their moves and if you do indicate, motorists freak out thinking you’re trying to communicate something more urgent and complex than “turning right”.
